Bitter-sweet Goodbyes...
29 September 2013
Heartbreak called Bruce.
Beyond heartbreak. Beyond sad.
We have, so sadly, made the descion to re-home our beloved Bruce. Even just writing that sentence has made me break down in tears. I think it's the hardest decisions we've ever had to make.
We found Bruce, then known as Henry, at the Lost Dog's Home when we lived in Melbourne. We needed a playmate for Timmy when we worked during the day and not long after Jacob found Bruce on their website. We were stoked to see that he was part Baseji like Timmy and his photo really made me smile.

We went to see him at the Home and I totally fell in love. He was so cute and soft and such a nuggety little dude, he was perfect. He and Timmy got on like brothers do. Adventuring out together at the dog parks, going for walks, sleeping next to each other and rumbling like true siblings.
He was 7 months old at the time. And still such a puppy.

4 years later, he is still the Scrappy-Do he has always been. After moving to NZ, we started going to a new dog park where he is a hit among the dogs. Everyone loves Bruce and remembers his name.

Now, with Hendrik and Willem here with us, sadly we are unable to give him the amount of attention he actually needs. Timmy has adjusted, but Bruce struggles.
| Loving the sunshine |
If you know of someone in Wellington or somewhere close that would be able to give Bruce the love and attention he craves, please let us know. He needs to go to the right person/family.

He is about 5 years old now. He's a Basenji and Jack Russell mix. Chipped and up to date on all of his vaccinations. We is registered with the WCC until next year.
I am so unbelievable heartbroken having to write this. But we have to do what is best for our beloved Bruce...

*the wrath of DOG(s)
I arrived home from work, me and my bike still at the bottom of our front steps when J stepped out.
J - "Wanna see what they did?"
B - "Oh no. Bad?"
J - "Just come look."
B - "Oh no!"
I step inside to see an empty tube of toothpaste I had put into the bathroom rubbish bin, in the front entry way.
J - "Keep going..."
B - "Oh no!!!!!"

*vegan banana bread and a bit of a crazy weekend
we are not vegan, I was once, but still love to have vegan and vegetarian things. Yummies!
Saturday afternoons are good for making bread of any kind. I found this recipe quickly online. I've tried so many different recipes for banana muffins and bread, but this one is a big score for me. No butter! There were a few things I changed from the actual recipe, but that's just me...
* 3-4 ripe bananas
* 1 cup raw sugar
* 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
* 1/4 cup water
* 2 cups whole wheat flour
* 1 tablespoon lsa
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon allspice
* about 1/2 cup of crumbled walnuts
In a large bowl mash bananas with sugar and vanilla until combined and creamy. Then mix in the water.
In a smaller bowl, sift together the flour, soda, powder lsa, allspice, and cinnamon.
Add the dry to wet and stir until just mixed. You don't want to over mix or the bread will be dry.
Pour batter into sprayed and floured loaf pan, top with walnuts and bake in preheated 180°C oven for one hour or so until done.
It's very yummy, for not having any added butter in the bread (even though we tend to add butter to it anyway...) That's the reason for bread - right? To eat butter?
Two sort of odd changes here at home.. I'm still getting used to J with no hair! He cut his hair when he was in NZ! He didn't tell me, just showed up at the airport with a big grin on his face.
Also we maybe adopting a little brother for Timmy! His name is Bruce and he's a bit OCD with Timmy, but we have a couple weeks with him, so we will see... He is basenji, like Timmy, but mixed with Jack Russell. Yes, he's a troublesome little nugget! Fingers crossed they sort themselves out over the next few days!
